In the recent Esu is not Satan campaign, I noticed the confusion of the roles of Esu and Shango, especially regarding Justice.

The issue is what is Esu wrongly misconceptualized as Satan by Samuel Ajayi Crowther, Information or Justice?

Esu can never be Satan, a Eurasian misconception of spirituality, which don’t exist in Yoruba and all naturally evolved belief systems based on duality of nature that states everything has good and bad, including God, so a wholly evil character like Satan can’t exist.

Yoruba and other original Africans extend this duality to Orishas – higher or lower, theory or practical, substance of essence.

Data is transmitted by Esu (information) while it’s applied use, interpretation and judgement is Shango (Justice).

The same applies to the relationship between Ogun (action/force) and Oya (revolutionary force/ corrective action).

Also we have Osun (personal love, wealth, fertility) and Olukun(global wealth and riches).

Some might argue that God/Eledunmare must have a counterpart, but God is almighty, composed of everything both good and bad. Orishas were humans that represented specific spiritual essences and were not God. A dual opposite of God will have to be a complete replica of the entire universe, not just Satan.

Ultimately, the world is based on duality.
